Ashton is a qualified Industrial designer and full-time Lecturer and BA Honours Coordinator in the Department of Industrial Design at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. Her research interests include: Appropriate Medical Device Design, Ceramics and Gender Equality in Design.
Ashton also manages the Industrial Design Ceramics Centre, guiding students through annual ceramic projects. Her Masters Research focused on defining a design process model for paediatric Medical Device Design (MDD) in South Africa. Since then, she has co-authored two academic papers expanding on this research. She has also supervised various BA Honours and Masters projects focusing on MDD. Her Second research focus area is that of gender representation and inequality in Design industries. Over the past few years, Ashton has been involved in various research initiatives, presented at workshops and co-authored various publications on this topic. In line with the research interests, Aston Moseley was selected to serve on the first World Design Organisation’s (WDO) Young Designers Circle committee from 2020-2021.
